The Discovery of Witches is one book out of a trilogy also known as the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. The All Souls Trilogy is a book series centered around two main characters named Diana and Matthew. Diana was born a witch from a dominant lineage, while Matthew is a vampire. Now you might be thinking, oh great, another Twilight but this trilogy is nothing like the Twilight series. To provide additional context to these characters, Diana is a person who has pushed away her true nature, while Matthew naturally embraces what he is. A book named Ashmole 782 is what draws these two together and intertwines them in ways they never expected. Since Diana has hidden away from being a witch for so long, when her powers start to bleed out without her in control of them, it adds an extra twist to the book because why were her powers hidden away? How powerful is Diana? These are two questions that help round out the first book and continue into the second book. The first book of this series provides an excellent grounding and great introductions into the characters that remain throughout the series as well as intriguing questions. The entire series is full of romance, time travel, mystery, and adventure.
This series has even spun off into it a convention called the All Souls Con. It is like Comic-Con except it is centered around this book series by Deborah Harkness. I think it is awe-inspiring that a convention exists already just after this one trilogy series. It highlights the writing ability and storytelling that Deborah can sow into her characters and story. The book series has also been created into a TV series based in England.
I hope you enjoy the first book and the series as much as I have enjoyed them! If you have enjoyed this review, please subscribe for more reviews.
