I went into this movie with very low expectations since I didn’t hear about it until the beginning of November. The only thing that gives me solace is that I have a Sinemia subscription and I considered this movie to be free. I’m hoping to make this review short and sweet and spare you all the pain that I went through for an hour and half. Let’s begin shall we?
The movie starts out with a young woman lying on a bed with her hands and feet tied to the bed’s barred head and foot boards. Two priests and the woman’s father are standing next to the bed. The priests are performing an exorcism which doesn’t seem to be working. Her father tells Hannah to fight the demon that is inside of her. As the camera gets up close , we see that one of her eyes is bright blue while the other is brown. Hannah seems to go back to her normal self when her dad leans in and again tells her to fight. She gives an evil laugh and turns her attention to the two priests. Hannah levitates and impales one of the priest by the forehead to a stake in the wall and the other, she levitates and starts strangling. Her father makes a decision to kill his daughter by suffocating her with a pillow. Hannah’s body goes limp and the second priest drops to the floor no longer in a stranglehold.
We are introduced to a woman named Megan who is a recovering addict looking for redemption. The once cop, meets with her AA sponsor Lisa, who is also a nurse at the hospital. Lisa gets Megan a job as an intake worker in the morgue working graveyard shift. Megan learns all the ropes of her new job and she starts work the next night from 11-7.
Megan’s job seems to be going well until her second night when a homeless man comes to the intake door and states he works there and left his key. Megan knows he doesn’t work there and alerts security. Security lets her know that they have homeless people come to the intake door all the time. Megan goes back to working, the alarm goes off to let her know there is someone back in the intake area. She looks and sees an ambulance. The EMT asks her for help to get the body out of the ambulance. Once the body is in the building, Megan notices that the elevator closed.
Dead or Alive
Megan begins taking pictures of the corpse’s wounds and also collects fingerprints to be scanned into the system. Each time Megan uploads the photos and fingerprints there is an error. Megan does a bit of research in the police database using her ex- boyfriend Andrew’s username and password to find out who is the mystery woman laying in the morgue. She learns that the woman is Hannah Grace and died by exorcism. At this point, strange occurrences are happening. Megan keeps noticing that the door to the storage unit containing Hannah’s body keeps opening. At one point, Megan swore the angle of Hannah’s head changed position.
Megan sees the containment unit holding Hannah’s body and notices that Hannah’s body is missing. She sees the body in plastic being dragged and we learn the homeless man is Hannah’s father. He holds a knife to Megan’s throat and tells her not to scream. Megan is able to defend herself and the man is arrested.
While Megan meets with her ex boyfriend Andrew, security guard Dave has an encounter with Hannah’s corpse. She kills him and now Hannah’s body is starting to regenerate. Lisa, also has comes face to face with Hannah and meets the same fate as Dave. Hannah is regenerating and becoming stronger. The EMT who dropped her body off comes back again to drop another body and learns that Megan was attacked. The EMT is also killed by Hannah.
Megan is in the parking lot and discovers the EMT’s body. At that moment her phone rings, and it’s Andrew explaining Hannah’s father murdered the police escort and could be heading back to the hospital. Hannah’s father kidnaps Megan and begins to explain what is happening. Hannah had depression and anxiety and slowly the demon was able to control her. He tells her that the only way to kill Hannah is to burn her body in the incinerator. He also asks Megan how is she still alive? They pull Hannah’s body out storage and see her regenerating. They are at the incinerator and Hannah springs to life and pushes her dad instead. After Hannah tries to kill Andrew , Megan is finally able to shoot Hannah and drag her body to the incinerator. Hannah tries to pull Megan in with her but was unsuccessful.
I rate this 1 out of 5 stars just to give it something. I am getting sick of Hollywood coming out with mediocre horror films. There was so much potential with this movie but the jump scares and build up were wasted. The movie was rushed and the character development was not there for Megan or Hannah. The movie should have shown more of Hannah’s back story with her depression and anxiety and how the demon was able to possess her. We were able to see why Megan became an addict from short flashbacks but we were not able to see how her addiction made her lose everything—— her job as a cop and her boyfriend Andrew. We don’t know why Hannah didn’t try and kill Megan first. The movie was just thrown together just to have a horror movie on the big screen. CAN I JUST GET A GOOD HORROR MOVIE PLEASE!!
